Keeping children safe
Your child's safety and wellbeing come first in everything we do, every single day.

Our commitment
JC Little Explorers believes every child has the right to be safe, happy and included. Both of our nurseries are registered with Ofsted. At their most recent inspections, Ofsted found safeguarding met at Southbourne (April 2026) and effective at Purbrook (April 2025).
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and Working Together to Safeguard Children, together with the procedures of the Hampshire and West Sussex safeguarding children partnerships.
Safer people
- Safer recruitment for every role, including references and identity checks.
- Enhanced DBS checks for all staff before they work with children.
- Safeguarding training for every member of staff on induction, refreshed regularly, and paediatric first aid trained staff on site whenever children are present.
- A key person for every child, and a clear staff code of conduct, including our mobile phone, photography and social media rules.
Who leads safeguarding
Each nursery has a named Designated Safeguarding Lead and deputy, who are shown in the setting and introduced to you when your child starts. They are supported by our senior team.
If you're worried about a child
- If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
- At nursery, speak to the nursery manager or any member of staff straight away — they will pass it to the Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day.
- At any other time, call your nursery: Purbrook 07301 004914 or Southbourne 07379 015058.
- You can also contact children's services directly: Hampshire or West Sussex.
Our policies
Our safeguarding and child protection policy, and our related policies (including allergies and medication, behaviour, lost and uncollected children, and whistleblowing), are reviewed every year. Parents receive them when their child starts, and they are available on request from your nursery.
